Though Percy (Logan Lerman), the half-human son of Greek god Poseidon, once saved the world, lately he's been feeling less than heroic. However, he doesn't have much time to brood -- the enchanted borders that protect Camp Half-Blood are dissolving, and a horde of mythical beasts threatens the demigods' sanctuary. In order to save Camp Half-Blood, Percy and his friends embark on a journey to the Sea of Monsters -- aka the Bermuda Triangle -- to find the magical Golden Fleece.

Critics Consensus

It's pretty and packed with action; unfortunately, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is also waterlogged with characters and plots that can't help but feel derivative.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Guy Lodge London Evening Standard Scrappy and kind-hearted, with odd flashes of high camp - even if its universe of patchworked Greek mythological elements still makes little sense. Rated: 2/5 Aug 9, 2013 Full Review Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | Rotten Tomatoes (2) William Goss Film.com Precious little about this is particularly memorable, but it's the odd touch of local color that makes these routine acts of derring-do a bit easier to bear. Aug 8, 2013 Full Review Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Xan Brooks Guardian The kids are charmless, the adults bemused. Rated: 2/5 Aug 8, 2013 Full Review Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It seems far too early in Lerman's career for a paycheck film to enter the picture. Rated: 1.5/4.0 Sep 19, 2020 Full Review Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Greg Evans CineVue Younger audiences may still find themselves entertained by Sea of Monsters, but by slowing down the pace and having some faith in its actors, it could have been so much more. Rated: 2/5 Feb 27, 2019 Full Review Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Frank Ochieng SF Crowsnest Unfortunately, Monsters is relentlessly derivative and a watered-down sci-fi saga that the tweens and teens will tune out with all the nonchalant gesture of popping a stubborn pimple on their faces. Jelisije J A sequel that left me scratching my head with its creative decisions that the writers decided to make......such a disappointment. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review Aidan B While not without its moments, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" is an ultimately forgettable sequel that fails to outshine its already mediocre predecessor. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Audience Member This film is even worse than the first one. They changed and removed important things from the book to make their story make sense! Well, newsflash, Warner Bros., it still makes absolutely no sense!!! This might just be one of the worst film adaptations of all time!! I guess my big problem with this film is “spoiler alert” that they brought Kronos back in the SECOND FILM!!!!! I’m being honest, if I could, I would give this film a zero star rating. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Christine M Disney attempted to fix a lot of the issues from the first movie, but they did not go far enough. For example, in the first movie, Annabeth is a hybrid between two characters from the books, Annabeth and Clarise. In this movie, she is almost a completely different character. However, if you can ignore that, and not focus on comparing it to the book, you will probably like this film. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Smaug Z It was one of the worst decisions in movie history to put chronos in and defeat him in 5 min. This is just 1 of 1000 horrible things in this movie. Realy terrible movie. Just watch mythology guy reweaw. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
