Job Summary:
The Research Specialist position will work within the Integrated Pathology and Radiology Core (iPRC) supporting the NCI funded Prostate Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. This position will integrate and lead prostate cancer tissue and imaging analyses for the core. Duties include novel tissue procurement, histologic sectioning and slide staining, managing specimens and digital whole mount slides, correlating with digital images and radiographic data, cell culture and performing biomarker analyses. This position will also involve innovative work with radiology to correlate pathology and radiologic images using state-of-the-art radiology imaging software, and pathologists and oncologists to integrate novel imaging studies with tissue and clinical outcome data. You will learn new methods for combining diverse data types, leveraging advanced tools to enhance data integration and analysis.
Responsibilities:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
- 75% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
- 5% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
- 5% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
- 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
- 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
- 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:
Required
Bachelor's Degree
Degree preferably in Microbiology, Biology, Immunology, or other closely related biological science.
Qualifications:
- Experience with histopathology preferred but not required.
- Background working with human tissue is preferred but not required.
- Interest in data management and imaging software preferred.
