I kind of want to see a Fate reference now.

Not a huge fan of Fate, personally, so don't count on it. Sorry.

Nora: what about Lovecraft's.........Issues?

Nyarlahotep: Oh no that was entirely how he chose to handle his apparent psychosis when writing those books.

Everyone else: ........

Nyarlahotep: Yeah....... not the Outer God's fault in that regard surprising I know.

Shaggy: So like Old man Henderson actually happened?

Nyarlahotep: ......Do not Speak that Man's name in my presence.

You joke, but that is actually what we're going with. The Outer Gods did torment Lovecraft in his dreams, but he was insanely racist even for the time and they had nothing to do with that. Ironically, according to some letters, he may have mellowed out by the end of his life.

And there is a greater than zero chance that I reference Old Man Henderson in the next chapter.

Y'know, I had a feeling something like this would happen. Where's Old Man Henderson when you need him?

It's happened before for both of them. Que Doofensmirtz meme.

KNM said:

It'd make sense that an Outer God would know of the canonical fate of Remnant and be somewhat aware of the 4th Wall, kinda-sorta.

The Outer Gods don't really care about our reality, so him knowing stuff he really shouldn't. So him knowing things like that Pyrrha was supposed to die, Ren and Nora's origin, and that Jaune is the Rusted Knight from The Girl Who Fell Through The World made sense to us.

dragonknight1314 said:

You even did that joke meme with Fred's supposed "catch phrase"

Truly this is love letter for all Scooby Doo fans

Now just need the confirmation hint that Crystal and Amber still cares about Shaggy and Scooby.
-the alien movie ending still stings

Yes, yes it is. As I said earlier, I grew up loving Scooby-Doo, and a goal with this mini-arc was to serve as a love letter to it.

And yeah, many of the movies happened. Particularly the earliest ones like Zombie Island. The tone of the conclusion of this arc is supposed to harken back to that. So, yes. This'll be darker than normal, but it's still Scooby-Doo.

GameBawesome said:

Oh, the chapter arrived! Finally, some good Scooby Doo content! Almost gets the taste out of my mouth of the fact that f*cking Velma got a God Damn Second Season

Funnily enough, the travesty that was Velma actually is what pushed us to do this mini-arc. I was on the fence, but that show offended me because the idea of a mature, adult-oriented Scooby show is actually a decent idea. But the execution, my God... So we decided to do it ourselves, by treating the characters like they're the actual characters they're supposed to be, treating what they do seriously but still throwing in classic Scooby gags, and throwing in goddamn Cthulhu for good measure.

KNM said:

Indeed. Fred's annoyance at a lack of a catchphrase is hilarious.

Yeah, I knew I had to reference that meme.

KNM said:

It's an Outer God aftet all, if the omniverse is like a tree with infinite branches enclosed in a bubble called "reality" the Outer Gods are those from beyond that bubble looking into if

Yeah, pretty much. He's closer to something like Mister Mxyzptlk than, say, Trigon in terms of what he is. But even that's not a true comparison.

TheAngryBuzzsaw said:

At the risk of potentially spoiling things, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that this arc is going to end with Nyarlahotep learning what Shaggy can do with 1% of his power. Because if not, then why have one of the big names in Lovecraft's canon show up in person?

You will have to wait and see whether I do that or not.

ViewerDWJ3SB said:

Wow I'm surprised that escalated well. It went from classic Scooby-Doo to Zombie Island/Mystery Incorporated just like that.

That was the intention. Normal, run of the mill Scooby episode, then boom, you're in one of the movies.

OmegaShark31 said:

Ah references to canon RWBY events, always a nice Easter egg.

I enjoy doing that, too.

OmegaShark31 said:

Ah, so that's how they exist here.

Yep. This is post-Mystery Incorporated, just not exactly as the show depicted it. It'll be clarified more next chapter, but essentially they accidentally reset their universe around the same time that Flash reset his. So, in a way, them being in the DC Universe is their and Barry's faults.

ShiftingSandLand said:

Ohohohohoho, something like Zombie Island, my favorite of the Scooby Doo films?

You spoil us, Trest, you really do!

Thank you!

Hence why you should never contain all of your fears and stresses inside yourself Ren. It only hurts people. Unfortunately, some people need the metaphorical sledgehammer to the face. But at least its a start and Nora forgives easily.

Yep. One of the reasons why I put Ren and Nora with Shaggy and Scooby was to bring about this reaction and start Ren down this next arc of his character development: learning to relax and not put everything on his shoulders.

Rulegante//0ta said:

YES! THE CLASSIC DOOR GAG!! Haha! Yes! gotta love the classics. And of course Nora would get the dueling equipment.

I had to do it. If I didn't, you guys would've rioted.

Rulegante//0ta said:

Damn. Im pretty sure Blackman's rage was born of hurt pride at getting so easily played. Shaggy, Scooby and Nora scammed the hell out of him. Got to love that refuge in audacity combined with Blackman's utter confusion. Great stuff, and I kinda want to see Brainiac get scammed by it. That would be hilarious.

A bit, yeah. Personally, I loved writing Nora just going along with it instantly while Ren was just dumbfounded at both them doing this and especially it working.

Rulegante//0ta said:

Oh f*ck. Nyarlathotep. Glad to see the gang has got protection from such cosmological terrors. Still, this absolutely terrifying. Nyalrathotep is second only to Azathoth. Granted, this is DC, so there exists counter measures, but this is still absolutely terrifying. I hope there's something nearby to help out. Also, given the Hound is watching this, I wonder just how the hell Salem is going to take all of this. Also, interesting that both the RWBY gang and Mystery Incorporated are the result of merged universes. Flashpoint must have done a lot. Damnit Barry.

Correct. Luckily, this isn't something they haven't dealt with before.

Rulegante//0ta said:

It most certainly is. I wouldn't doubt it if he had a journal of workshopped catchphrases.

Probably, lol.

Rulegante//0ta said:

Plus references they wouldn't get, like Jaune's Rusted Knight tenure.

Yep. Jaune had no idea what Nylarthotep was talking about, but he recognized an insult.

Xero Key said:

Cthulu's actually really low on the scale. He's a butler really, wake up the others and open the door so they can come through.

Correct. He was defeated by getting a steamboat rammed into him by a bunch of sailors. He's just very iconic.
