The Scarlet Speedster's New Daughter - Chapter 4 (2024)

"So tell me. And don't worry about the time line. Nora already destroyed it probably."
"Um my name is Birdie. Allen."
"Allen?"

She nodded and stared at the floor.

"You're my daughter?"
"Yeah um. When you missed Nora's firsts it wasn't because you had completely disappeared. You just weren't with Iris at the time."
"Who's your mom?"
"I can't tell you."
"Birdie."
"I really can't Barry."

He sighed and nodded. "Go on."

"Well, after you were with my mom, a few months later, you disappeared for real and never came back. You saw Nora grow up for at least three years. Occasionally, not always. But you never knew I existed. Mom wanted to have me so she took care of me until I was three. I started having my powers and they took me away from her cause meta's aren't allowed to be mixed with normal people. They made some sort of camp and I've been there ever since."
"How old are you?"
"Eighteen."
"How come Nora's not there with you?"
"Cause she's your daughter and everyone knows that. They don't know about me." She shrugged.
"I need some time to process this. How could I do that to Iris and Nora? I had an affair with someone else, left them and then had another kid, then disappeared. I ruined my life."

Hearing her dad say that hurt her pretty bad. She sniffled and stood up. She knew she clearly wasn't wanted by him and was a mistake just like Nora had said to her before.

"I'm gonna go." She said.

He just nodded and ran his hand through his hair. She walked out, trying not to make any noise but halfway to the elevator she made a hiccup sound and Caitlin heard it. She walked out and saw Birdie holding her chest and sobbing.

"Honey what's wrong?" She asked hugging her.

She sobbed harder and hugged Caitlin tightly. Cisco walked out and saw them hugging.

"Guess that talk didn't go so well." He said hugging Birdie.
"No." She answered.
"You need to calm down okay? This isn't good for you." Caitlin said.
"I just want to go home. Be miserable there."
"What are you talking about?" Cisco asked.
"He doesn't want me. He said he ruined his life." She sniffled.
"I don't understand." Caitlin said.
"Me neither." Cisco answered.

Barry came up calling for them.

"I'm gonna go. I'll see you later." Birdie said drying her tears.
"I think you should stay." Cisco said.
"Yeah, you're really not thinking straight hon."
"I don't want to be here." Birdie sniffled.
"Okay, fine. Go to my house. I'll send you the address." Cisco said ruffling her hair. "Here's the key."
"Thanks."

She smiled and sped off.

They walked into the cortex and sat in their computers as if nothing had happened. They both wanted to know pretty bad what had happened between Barry and Birdie but kept quiet and if he wanted them to know, he would tell them.

"Um, I need to talk to you." He said walking in.
"What's up?" Caitlin asked looking at her computer.
"Birdie's my daughter."
"Another one? She doesn't look like Iris though." Cisco said.
"She's not Iris' daughter. Her mom is someone else."
"Who?" Cisco asked.
"She didn't tell me."
"What did you tell her?" Caitlin asked.
"I just said I made a mistake. I mean how could I do that to Iris and Nora? Clearly, I wasn't thinking when I did what I did." He said rubbing his face.
"Did you really tell her that?" Cisco asked madly.
"Yeah. Why are you mad?"
"You just told your daughter you didn't want her Barry. How could you do that to that poor kid? Nothing you did was her fault. She left crying saying you didn't want her and that she was better off miserable back at home. You clearly weren't thinking at all. Not then, not now." Caitlin said furiously.

She knew what it was like to have a father who was alive and wanted nothing to do with her and she knew how badly it hurt. She also knew what it was like to have a mother and not have a relationship with her so basically, she knew what it was like to feel alone.

"Look, I didn't ask to have her. Whoever I had her with, we didn't ask for her to be born."
"You're being so selfish right now. You of all people know what it's like to lose the people you love. Especially your parents. You grew up without them."
"Yeah so?"
"We expect you to have a little sympathy for your daughter, who grew up without you." Cisco said raising his voice.

Barry stayed silent and stared at the floor.

"I'm gonna go check on her. If you're not gonna take care of her, then we will. You can just go back to your perfect family life. Leave your stray puppy behind, cause it seems that's all she is to you. I'm sure she won't mind." He said pissed off.

He grabbed his coat and left. Caitlin who was pissed off as well stayed silent and a stray tear escaped her eyes.

"I'm gonna go home." She said grabbing her things. "Call me if something comes up."
"Cait."
"Don't call me that. You lost your privileges to do so."

She walked away and Barry just stood in the middle of the cortex. Since he was confused about everything, he just went for a run because that usually helped him relax and think straight.
